Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Ryan Bennett has told the Express and Star that he hates the international break, as it ruins training.

Wolves have so many players away representing their countries that it is hard for Nuno’s side to work on anything on the training ground.

And Bennett simply cannot wait for club action to start up again, as he wants his teammates to return.

“I hate it, personally,” Bennett said.

“We’ve got a lot of internationals so there are a lot of players missing, it’s hard to work on anything without the numbers we normally have, shape etc.

“They go away and work on their own things with the national teams, it’s difficult, you’re working hard with nothing really at the end of it.

“When the boys come back next Thursday or whenever it is, you get that buzz back and you’re working towards something at the end of the week.

“Sometimes it’s nice to have the weekend free, but it’s tough work with nothing at the end of it.”

Bennett has held on to his place in Wolves’ starting line-up this season, which has come as a surprise to many.

In pre-season it seemed as if Romain Saiss could take his place in defence, and the signing of Leander Dendoncker also put Bennett under pressure.

However, the 28-year-old has responded well since Wolves’ promotion and helped Nuno’s side make a good start back in the top tier.

When Wolves do return to action after the international break they have a match against Huddersfield Town at Molineux first up.
