VfL Wolfsburg are reportedly set to open contract talks with rumoured Arsenal target Omar Marmoush, who last summer was denied the chance to sign for Brentford by the Bundesliga club.

According to Kicker, the German side are keen to sign the Egyptian international to a new contract, with Marmoush’s current deal set to expire at the end of this season as interest continues to mount for the 23-year-old attacker, who has featured in every Bundesliga game for Wolfsburg this campaign.

As per the report, Marmoush was on the verge of signing for Brentford. However, Wolfsburg vetoed a transfer as the attacker has since gone on to impress for Die Wolfe this season, with the attacker bagging two goals and guiding the German side to seventh in the standings.

With Bild reporting that Arsenal are keeping tabs on Marmoush, it’s no wonder why Wolfsburg are keen to sign the attacker down to a new contract amid big interest from the Premier League leaders. Yet with January just around the corner, the German side are in a race against time.

Indeed, the winter market could see the likes of Arsenal and Brentford make a new assault on trying to sign Marmoush. And if Wolfsburg take their time in trying to tie the attacker down to a new deal, the Premier League duo could have a shot at landing the forward at a bargain price.

Whilst Marmoush’s goal contributions might not be anything to write home about, the attacker’s underlying numbers are impressive, to say the least. And because of this, there might be a great incentive from the likes of Arsenal to move for the Wolfsburg star.

Arsenal and Brentford are likely to look at attackers in January. And as a result, Wolfsburg need to act quickly if they’re to renew Marmoush’s contract and to keep the Egyptian at the club beyond his current deal, due to expire in a few months time.

Whilst the 2022 FIFA World Cup offers time for the club and player, it will be for nothing if Wolfsburg doing nothing to sign Marmoush to a new deal. And with Arsenal and Brentford still eyeing the forward, the German side must be on pace with the attacker to get him to commit.
