Preston’s Jermaine Beckford in action with Stoke’s Philipp Wollscheid
VfL Wolfsburg sporting director Klaus Allofs has confirmed the imminent transfer of Stoke City defender Philipp Wollscheid.
He spoke to Sky Sports Germany about the transfer and is quoted by SportBild as stating:
“It is a loan with option to buy. He brings all the prerequisites, has already proven in the Bundesliga.
“Wollscheid had previously played in Nuremberg already possible under the former Wolfsburg coach Dieter Hecking.”
Wollscheid is now set to be confirmed as a new signing at the Volkswagen Arena before the German transfer window closes today.
Wollscheid, who has two caps for the German national team, originally arrived at Stoke on loan back in January 2015 from Bayer Leverkusen.

He signed permanently last summer and went on to play 39 times for the club in 2015-16 season.
He has featured twice for The Potters this season but it appears he is heading back to Germany.
The move for Wollscheid will not go down well for Stoke, who would want to keep hold of the player going forward as he is a key member of the squad.
However, Stoke are set to improve the position.
Bruno Martins Indi looks set to arrive at the club from Porto. The Dutch international may be seen as an improvement on the German, who will now be looking to get back into German national team contention at Wolfsburg.
