Rodrigo De Paul and Neymar were left devastated by Giovani Lo Celso sharing that injury has ruled out the Tottenham Hotspur-owned player from appearing at the 2022 World Cup for Argentina.

The 26-year-old penned an emotional message on Instagram where he stated that ‘I did try by all possible means’ to be available for the World Cup in Qatar, but his campaign is over.

In the comments section, his fellow countryman and Atlético Madrid midfielder De Paul posted the following message:

‘Without you, nothing is the same friend,” said De Paul. “Neither outside nor inside the field, I love you my brother. I will miss you, but we still have many more punches to throw, we are waiting for you’, whilst PSG forward Neymar sent a heart emoji to the Spurs man loaned out to Villarreal.

WORLD CUP HEARTACHE

Lo Celso isn’t the only one suffering World Cup heartache ahead of the big showpiece event next week.

For some, a long-term injury is ruling them out of action, but perhaps what will hurt the most for others is a small knock keeping them out of the tournament.

Given that there is such a small window from domestic football halting to the World Cup itself starting, then even a 10-day knock can end your chances of appearing on football’s biggest stage.

There will be many big names that will be missing for the 2022 World Cup, including France duo Paul Pogba and N’Golo Kante.

Reece James wasn’t selected by England boss Gareth Southgate, even though the player feels he could be ready for the knockout stages if he pushes himself – the player recently liked a tweet suggesting that if Harry Kane was in his position, then the Tottenham striker would have been selected.
