Jason Cundy has told talkSPORT he would pick West Ham United striker Michail Antonio ‘every single time’ over Harry Kane with the Tottenham Hotspur striker badly out of form.

Kane is yet to open his account for goals or assists in the Premier League this season after five appearances. Whereas no player across the top-flight has been involved in more goals as Antonio. With the Hammers talisman netting five and creating three over five outings.

Antonio is one of three players to have found the back of the net five times for a league-high haul. Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah and Leicester City frontman Jamie Vardy being the others, while Neal Maupay, Ismaila Sarr and Bruno Fernandes have each scored four.

Kane has struggled to make any impact for Tottenham, whereas Antonio is often at the heart of West Ham’s attacks. With the £70k-a-week striker pulling defences apart with his runs and dominating backlines to allow the Irons to push forward.

Cundy picks Antonio over Kane ‘without question’

Cundy would not hesitate to pick Antonio over Kane based on the London rivals’ respective form. As the former Chelsea and Tottenham defender does not believe it is even a debate.

“Without question,” Cundy stated. “That’s not even up for debate right now. Antonio right now, over Kane.”

Cundy then proposed an example scenario with West Ham’s Antonio and Tottenham’s Kane to emphasise his stance.

“Chelsea are playing Juventus. If Romelu Lukaku can’t play and you gave me the choice of Kane and Antonio to put on that blue shirt. I’m not going Harry Kane, I’m going Antonio. Every single time. Ivan Toney, I’d [also] pick him over Kane right now.

“Form is temporary, class is permanent. Right now, Harry Kane has not got any good form. I’m not saying he’s not class.”

Is West Ham’s Antonio better than Tottenham’s Kane, right now?

Kane has started the season out of form, drifting around the pitch and chasing the ball than scoring the goals. Tottenham will desperately hope their £200k-a-week striker rediscovers the form he displayed last term soon.

He took the Golden Boot and top playmaker awards last term with 23 goals and 14 assists in 35 games. While Antonio fired home 10 and laid on five in 31 games.

But it is the Irons frontman who is currently on fire and took the August Player of the Month Award. So, Cundy has reason to pick West Ham’s Antonio over Tottenham’s Kane right now.
