Alan Shearer has stated that Newcastle United need to sign ‘three players of priority’ in January, as he told ¡Qué Golazo! YouTube channel.
The Premier League’s all-time leading goalscorer has stated that Newcastle need to bring in a centre-half, creative midfielder and striker.
With the Saudi’s behind them, the Magpies can knock on many doors across Europe now and use their heavy pockets to lure some of the top talents to St James’ Park.
But the big stumbling block that stands in their way is the fact that they are sitting in the relegation zone, and could still be come January.
Given Newcastle’s situation, club legend Shearer made it clear what his former side need to do in a few months time.
“If you are asking me the positions, then I think we can definitely do with players straight down the spine,” said Shearer.
“Defensively, they have been really poor. Only Norwich have conceded more goals. Newcastle have got one of the worst defences in the league, so it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work out what they need.
“They need a defender. Preferably a centre-back. They certainly need a creative midfielder. Without Callum Wilson, and Callum’s career will tell you that he’s going to pick up injuries now and again. He’s not going to play every game, so there’s no doubt that they need another forward.
“Three players of priority, without a doubt, would be a centre-half, creative midfielder and a forward.”

Before Newcastle can push forward with any of that, they need to bring in a manager and director of football of some sort, in order to get their ship moving.
That’s when the real talk of who they will or won’t bring in can start.
Until then, it’s damage limitations, trying to get their first win on the board and getting out of the bottom three.
Newcastle may well be the richest club in the footballing world now, but they want to be the richest in the Premier League, not in the Championship.
