Watford reportedly wanted Lukasz Fabianski but West Ham United are allegedly closing in on the Swansea goalkeeper.

Watford are still on the hunt for a new goalkeeper, according to the Watford Observer, with concerns over Heurelho Gomes’s future as number one.
Gomes is now 37 and will soon enter the final year of his current contract at Vicarage Road and as a result competition is needed between the posts.

The Hornets had considered Lukasz Fabianski following Swansea City’s relegation from the Premier League, but West Ham United are expected to sign the Poland international themselves in the coming days.
That has seen them instead turn to Benfica’s Bruno Varela and Sevilla’s Sergio Rico as alternatives, but a stopper with experience in the English top flight is preferred.
Alternatives
Now this player doesn’t have experience in England’s top tier but does play for one of the divisions most prominent clubs in Manchester Unite. That man is Sam Johnstone.

Johnstone has spent the past 18 months on loan at Aston Villa and has greatly impressed, but due to financial issues at Villa Park and missing out on promotion to Fulham in the playoff final, the Championship side can’t sign the 25-year-old permanently.
The Hammers targeted the ‘keeper themselves, the Guardian reported last month, but have clearly now instead decided on Fabianski but with the Red Devils willing to sell if their £5m valuation is met – according to the Daily Mail – the former England Under-20 international could be the ideal signing for Watford.
