Leeds should keep their options open, and look to Aston Villa’s Jonathan Kodjia.

Leeds United are at risk of putting all their eggs in one basket over striker Matej Vydra.

The Yorkshire Evening Post report Leeds have put their pursuit of Abel Hernandez on the backburner while they chase the Derby striker, leaving them at risk of losing both.

If the Vydra deal falls flat, Leeds will be back to square one, and so now is the time to start exploring their options further and forcing the issue.

Leeds are able to target Vydra due to Derby’s need to comply with financial fair play rules.. and the Rams are not the only club at risk of falling foul.

Aston Villa are in a desperate situation financially and Leeds should look to take advantage and test their resolve over striker Jonathan Kodjia.

Kodjia missed nearly all of last season through injury but his record before that stood up to the best in the Championship.

The Ivory Coast international scored 19 goals for Bristol City in 2015/16 and then another 19 goals for Aston Villa in 2016/17.

Still 28, he is entering his peak years and will be keen to make up for lost time last season.

His recent injury could even reduce his price tag.

Leeds showing interest in Kodjia could even flush out Derby over Vydra, and the Whites would have little to lose by extending their search for a proven and prolific striker.
