Leeds United may need to consider alternatives to Pierre-Michel Lasogga this summer.

Leeds United have seen Pierre-Michel Lasogga star in recent weeks, but it remains unclear whether they will be able to secure a permanent deal for the Hamburg loanee.

With three goals in his last four games and five in his last seven, Lasogga has excelled in the Leeds attack despite some disappointing results, leading to fans begging for him to sign permanently this summer.

The German hitman, 26, may be open to staying at Elland Road, but his wage demands could be a problem, and that may force director of football Victor Orta to look for alternative transfer targets in attack.

Orta has used his knowledge of Spanish football to bring in the likes of Samu Saiz, Adrian Balboa, Hugo Diaz, Alejandro Machuca and Oriol Rey, and one prolific hitman who fits a similar mould to Lasogga is Real Zaragoza hitman Borja Iglesias.

The Celta Vigo loanee, 25, has hit 13 goals and four assists in all competitions for the Segunda side this season, and his performances are reportedly attracting major interest ahead of the summer transfer window.

El Periodico de Aragon report that Celtic and Swansea City are both pursuing Iglesias’ signature, with English clubs also claimed to be keen, and Leeds should at least use Orta’s knowledge of Spanish football to take a look at the former Valencia trainee.

Standing at 6ft 2in and possessing great strength, Iglesias is a similar type of striker to Lasogga, offering a focal point with brute force rather than mobility or skill, focusing mainly on hold-up play and finding the net.

Iglesias has proven those attributes this season, and given that there is no purchase clause in his Zaragoza loan and he won’t be staying in the second tier of Spanish football, Leeds should consider rivalling Celtic for his signature if they can’t land Lasogga.
