Christian Benteke is injured for the game at Manchester United, which makes Crystal Palace allowing Fraizer Campbell to join Hull seem like a mistake.
Crystal Palace striker Christian Benteke (2L) picks up an injury during the English Premier League football match against Manchester City.
Benteke twisted his knee during the 5-0 defeat to Manchester City and had to be taken off in the 72nd minute and was later seen leaving the Etihad Stadium on crutches.
Roy Hodgson, manager of Crystal Palace, looks on during the Premier League match against Manchester City.
While it is known the striker will not be available for another potentially tricky visit to Manchester on Saturday (September 30), there are fears that the 26-year-old has suffered ligament damage and could be set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
With Connor Wickham currently recovering from his own serious knee injury, it will mean the Eagles will travel to Old Trafford with no recognised centre forward in their squad – hardly a good thing for a side who is yet to score in any of their six league outings so far this season.
It is a situation which makes the South London club’s decision to allow Fraizer Campbell to leave Selhurst Park on a free transfer to join Hull City this summer seem all the more baffling.
Fraizer Campbell and James McArthur arrive prior to the Premier League match between Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur.
Hardly prolific during his time with Palace with eight goals in 50 games it must be said, Campbell did find the net for Hull at the weekend during their 1-1 draw at Reading in the Championship and could have at least provided a focal point in attack against the Red Devils.
With Wickham starting the campaign injured and no new striker signed over the summer, letting the 29-year-old leave for the Tigers is now beginning to look like a somewhat rash decision.
