The Glasgow Rangers youngster deserves a shot of his own.
With the BBC reporting that Rangers have made an approach to Aberdeen regarding their manager Derek McInnes, it seems Graeme Murty’s days as interim boss at Ibrox could be coming to an end, so what chance one final bold move when it comes to his team selection?
Murty has already shown what Ross McCrorie can do when pushed into midfield, while he has reinvigorated some of the club’s previously under-performing stars and ensured the club are within seven points of league leaders Celtic after back-to-back victories against the very side whose manager the Rangers board are now pursuing.
But before Murty goes, he should follow his good work with McCrorie and give Serge Atakayi a chance to impress against Ross County.
The 18-year-old should not be thrown straight in at the deep end, yet an appearance of the bench could give Rangers fans – along with their next permanent manager – a glimpse of what the talented attacker can do.
Atakayi is a right winger who has impressed for Rangers youth and deserves a chance to follow McCrorie into the senior side.
Murty has already left a few parting gifts for his successor and blooding Atakayi could be yet another, with the Finland under-19 international tipped for a very bright future.
