Shakhtar Donetsk manager Paulo Fonseca has rejected Everton so is Marco Silva now the only obvious choice?
Paulo Fonseca will not be the next Everton manager, at least that is according to Spanish football journalist Guillem Balague.
Balague, speaking on his Youtube channel, says that the Shakhtar Donetsk boss was approached by the Toffees but decided to turn them down.
“Everton approached him and he said no to Everton,” he said.
“Why? Because he is thinking of Arsenal. He has been told Arsenal are interested in him.”
What now?
At the beginning of April, the Mirror reported that Fonseca was the first choice of Farhad Moshiri to succeed Sam Allardyce this summer.
The majority shareholder at Goodison Park, Moshiri, is prepared to pay off Allardyce to make the change despite the 63-year-old having a year left to run on his £6m-a-year contract.
Yet with Fonseca seemingly no longer an option who will the Merseysiders turn to? Well apparently Marco Silva remains the second choice.
Silva was in the running when Ronald Koeman was sacked back in October, but with Watford unwilling to let the Portuguese leave Allardyce was instead appointed.
The Hornets then axed the 40-year-old in January, meaning that he is a free agent should Moshiri decide to make an approach.
