Leeds United’s hardest-working forward is struggling for goals so is a partnership on the cards?
Leeds United’s summer signings Caleb Ekuban and Pierre-Michel Lasogga are chalk and cheese when it comes to work-rate, with the former impressing every second he is on the pitch and the latter sticking to the sole job of putting the ball in the back of the net.
An injury to Lasogga has allowed Ekuban to stake a claim that he was never going to waste yet, despite his impressive outings, the Ghanaian is yet to score in the Championship.
With tireless energy and an ability to bring others into the game, that is something Leeds fans have been willing to forgive for now. However it will be interesting to see how long that remains the case if Ekuban continues to draw blanks.
Perhaps the ideal solution would be to pair a player who does not stop running with one who can stick the ball in the back of the net on a regular basis, with Ekuban and Lasogga playing together for Thomas Christiansen’s side.
That would mean a change of formation – unless the younger of the two played out wide in place of Pablo Hernandez – but either way it could ultimately see Leeds scoring the goals that fire them back into the Premier League after far too long away.
A mixture of Ekuban and Lasogga would make Leeds’ perfect striker, but as it is they may have to play both to get th benefits they each offer in their own way.
