Mark Warburton is expected to add to another striker to his Ibrox pool this summer.
Armstrong has scored three goals in nine appearances for the England U19s
Newcastle United’s relegation could scupper the club’s plans to loan Adam Armstrong to the Championship, according to the Chronicle.
Armstrong, who scored 20 goals for League One outfit Coventry City last season, is now an alleged target for Lee Clark’s Kilmarnock.
But if Scotland is an option for the prolific England Under-19 international, could Rangers muscle in on their rivals’ attempts?
The Light Blues, whose striking pool comprises Martyn Waghorn, Michael O’Halloran and 36-year-old Kenny Miller, are expected to add at least one more centre forward following promotion.
Veteran Miller (R) is one of just three senior strikers at Ibrox
And Armstrong is almost certain to feature on the radar of Gers boss Mark Warburton, who took lower league talents Andre Gray and Moses Odubajo to Brentford and has already procured Accrington pair Matt Crooks and Josh Windass this summer.
Burnley’s Gray (L) was signed by Warburton having led Luton to promotion from the Conference Premier
With Aleksandar Mitrovic, Ayoze Perez and Papiss Cisse all on Newcastle’s books – and Patrick Bamford and Ross McCormack both linked with moves to St. James’ Park – another loan seems likely for the young Geordie.
And if the Championship is off limits, then Scotland’s top flight is arguably the next best place for Armstrong to develop.
