Is Andy Halliday needed at Ibrox as Borna Barisic closes in on a return for Glasgow Rangers?

It looks like Borna Barisic might be close to a return to Rangers’ first team.
Barisic hasn’t kicked a ball for Rangers in over two months due to injury, but came through an Under-23 game unscathed on Monday afternoon.
His return will raise questions over Andy Halliday’s long-term role at Ibrox, given that the 27-year-old has been deputising at left-back in recent weeks.
Halliday is a central midfielder by trade, but Steven Gerrard has many better options than him in that position and it might be time for the Rangers boss to move on the Scot.
He is a diehard Gers fan and one who would want to fight for his place in Gerrard’s team but, with Barisic fit again, it’s a losing battle.
Gerrard won’t be short of a left-back if Barisic suffers another injury, with Jon Flanagan and even Lee Wallace – who also played for the Under-23s yesterday – available if needed.
Being told that he isn’t needed would break Halliday’s heart, considering his affinity for Rangers, but it would hurt him even more if he was being omitted from the entire squad every week and that’s a possibility by virtue of the Croat’s return.
