Cian Bolger has thrived under Rosler at Fleetwood Town and looks worthy of a move to the Championship – potentially with Norwich City

Neither Leicester City, Bolton Wanderers nor Southend United appeared to realise the potential they had in their hands. Let go by each of the short-sighted trio, towering centre-back Cian Bolger has responded to the rejection by blossoming into arguably the finest defender in the third tier.
Therefore, with his manager at Fleetwood Town, Uwe Rosler, the clear favourite to take over at Norwich City according to Sky Bet, don’t be surprised if the 25-year-old is on the move again this summer.
And while Canaries supporters may argue that they need proven talent if they are to legitimately challenge for promotion next season after the underachievement of 2016/17, they should not underestimate just how impressive Bolger has been at the heart of Fleetwood’s backline.
An old-fashioned, lower league centre-back, the former Republic of Ireland youth is a major reason why the Cod Army have the second best defensive record in the division behind Bolton Wanderers.
At 6ft 3ins, he is a beast in the air. Rarely a game goes by without seemingly hitting double figures in clearances and blocks. It’s fair to say Norwich, who have conceded the fifth most goals in the Championship this season despite currently sitting eighth, could do with a defender of his ‘body-on-the-line’ commitment.

And that’s without mentioning his qualities at the other end. Bolger has netted five goals from centre-back this season, utilising his formidable leap to great effect.
Furthermore, with Angus MacDonald committing his future to Barnsley, Bolger could represent an astute and affordable alternative. According to the Daily Mail, Norwich made a £2.5 million bid in January for a defender who only arrived in the Football League from Torquay United last summer.

However, MacDonald has now signed a new contract until 2019 and has made clear that his long-term ambitions lie in the Premier League, The Star reports.
Even more reason for Rosler to bring his on-pitch lieutenant with him if he’s appointed at Carrow Road.
