Tottenham Hotspur may need a new right back after selling Kyle Walker to Manchester City.
Tottenham Hotspur haven’t signed a player yet this summer, but Kyle Walker’s departure to Manchester City could spark them into action.
Walker, 27, completed his move to the Etihad Stadium on Friday afternoon, with BBC Sport reporting that the fee involved could top £50million.
Kyle Walker warms up
Walker’s departure gives Kieran Trippier a chance to nail down a spot as Tottenham’s first-choice right back, whilst youngster Kyle Walker-Peters could also attempt to push for a first-team spot this term.
However, it seems more likely that Spurs do end up signing another right back this summer, and The Mirror recently claimed that Tottenham are interested in snapping up Paris Saint-Germain’s Serge Aurier.
PSG have just signed Dani Alves on a free transfer from Juventus, meaning that manager Unai Emery has Alves, Aurier and Thomas Meunier available to pick from at right back – and Aurier could be the odd man out.
L’Equipe reported over the weekend that Aurier is likely to be available for transfer, with AC Milan or Manchester United touted as destinations, with a fee between €20million and €25million (£17.5million and £22milion) mentioned.
Paris St Germain’s Serge Aurier
If that is the case, then Tottenham should be looking to firm up their interest in Aurier, who would be a smart replacement for Walker given his energy, pace and ability going forward.
The Ivorian international is still only 24, and manager Pochettino could look for a favour from former club PSG in his pursuit of the former Arsenal target, who could be a bargain at just a fraction of the price Spurs sold Walker for.
