This is not a scenario Welbeck can afford in a World Cup year, when he hopes to re-establish himself in the England team after being a regular under former boss Roy Hogson.
Welbeck’s past two seasons have been hampered by injury but he is back fit again now and keen to kick on.

Newcastle could provide him to do that, with the club unsuccessful so far in their attempts to sign a striker to add competition to Dwight Gayle.
Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez is an admirer of Welbeck, quoted by Goal in 2016 describing him as a ‘dangerous’ threat up front.
Welbeck is just 26 and has shown his quality when he did get games last season, scoring against Manchester United and providing two assists in a win over Everton.
It could even be possible that the Gunners could consider a loan move for the striker, and with his game time looking extremely limited next season, a switch to Newcastle could be just what his career needs at the right time.
