Jamie Redknapp told Sky Sports Premier League on Wednesday evening that Tottenham now ‘wish’ they had Kyle Walker-Peters in their team.
Last summer, Tottenham opted to part ways with their academy product, with the 24-year-old moving to Southampton and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg making a move in the other direction.
Even though the Saints have fallen off a cliff since the turn of the year, it has been a pretty strong campaign for Walker-Peters, who has no doubt outperformed both Serge Aurier and Matt Doherty this season.
And Redknapp thinks it was a ‘mistake’ by Tottenham by allowing him to go.
“Walker-Peters going back to his former club,” said Redknapp. “He’ll be showing what a good player he could have been at Spurs.
“And I am sure Spurs are thinking ‘with the right-back problems that we have then we wish we had him’.
“So, there have been a few mistakes there.”

Well, Walker-Peters was back on familiar grounds on Wednesday as his Southampton side suffered a 2-1 defeat in North London.
And with Mason having the option to choose between Aurier and Doherty, he perhaps would have preferred Walker-Peters talents, especially given that he would have seen him come through the ranks.
Given how Doherty’s time in a Tottenham shirt has panned out, it’s quite clear that a big mistake was made in bringing him from Wolves and then allowing KWP to head for the exit door.
