West Ham United beat Newcastle United 2-0 on Monday and the Hammers’ centre-back was very impressive.
West Ham United’s 2-0 victory against Newcastle United on Monday evening came courtesy of a brace from summer signing Dimitri Payet.
But despite the Frenchman’s brilliance he was not the only player who deserved credit after the Hammers built on their 3-0 win against Liverpool prior to the international break.
Recent loan addition Victor Moses was also brilliant, as was centre-back Winston Reid who dealt with everything Newcastle threw at him.
| Passing Accuracy | Tackles Accuracy | Aerials Won | Effective Clearances | Effective Headed Clearances | Duels Won | Ball Recoveries | Interceptions Won | Mins Played | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Winston Reid | 78% | 100% | 100% | 5 | 4 | 3 | 4 | 3 | 90 |
In truth the Magpies struggled up front but that should take nothing away from Reid, who finished the game having won 100 per cent of his tackles and 100 per cent of his aerial duels.
The New Zealand international also had a passing accuracy of 78 per cent while he recovered the ball on four occasions, won three interceptions and three duels.
The West Ham defender also made nine effective clearances as he calmly and effectively dealt with Newcastle’s limited attack.
For all Payet’s talent – and it is considerable – West Ham are far from a one-man team and the side manager Slaven Bilic has built in recent months looks set to have an outstanding season…with consistency the only thing missing for now.
