West Bromwich Albion are one of a number of sides who are interested in signing Manchester City’s Fabian Delph.

A recent report from the Daily Star suggested that West Brom were one of the clubs interested in signing Fabian Delph this summer. And while it will not be easy to complete a deal – with a couple of their Premier League rivals interested also – it is surely fair to say that the Baggies winning the race for his signature would see Tony Pulis land the perfect replacement for Darren Fletcher.

Fletcher may have surprised many Baggies supporters last week by completing a deal to join Stoke City. But based on his form this past season, it is perhaps fair to say that, as long as the club replace him, the supporters may not be too despondent about losing the Scotland international.

And in Delph, West Brom have the ideal chance to fill the void left behind by the former Manchester United man.

The Star reports that the 27-year-old is resigned to the fact that his chances of working his way back into the City fold are slim, so it may not be out of the question to suggest he may be available at a decent price, especially considering that he is a player who was being included in England squads not so long ago.

He proved during his time with Aston Villa, and in very brief glimpses at City, that he has the quality to be a key player for a Premier League side, and West Brom could be the ones to be reap the benefits of that fact if they make sure that they win the race to sign him.

The Express and Star reported that Tony Pulis’ interest in William Carvalho cooled over concerns about his athleticism, but there can surely be no similar doubts about Delph, who is capable of driving his side forward with industrious runs up the pitch.

And if he does arrive at the Hawthorns and does prove to be that influential figure in the middle of the park for the Baggies, then West Brom will surely realise that losing Fletcher and replacing him with Delph could be a brilliant piece of business.
