Newcastle United are interested in signing Red Bull Salzburg defender Oumar Solet but face competition from Everton.

Oumar Solet is keen on a move to the Premier League amid interest from Newcastle United and Everton.

The Daily Mail report that both Newcastle and Everton have shown an interest in defender Solet.

The report also carries quotes from Solet in which he professes his desire to move to England.

Solet outlined his ambitions to play in the Premier League even though he is just making his way in his career.

Solet is confident that he can perform well in the Premier League and thinks a move to England will help him become a top player.

The Frenchman described himself as a ‘winner’ and wants to become a ‘really big player’ once he leaves Red Bull Salzburg.

“I have a lot of ambitions, to be honest. I’m just on my way – for sure the Premier League excites me a lot,” said Solet. “I feel it’s a league that I can perform in really well and it can bring me to the top. It’s probably the best league in the would. I feel if I have the chance it’s going to help make me become the top player I want to be.”

“That’s exactly what I need for the next step. I’m a challenger, a competitor, a winner. I have big ambitions in football and outside football. I want to be a really big player.

“I really want to look at myself in 20 years and be proud of what I did. Let’s see what happens and I will give 100 percent with any team I play with. I’m the type of guy who wants to win everything. I know individually what I can bring but I know how to support my team mates. This is something I am really proud about. I still need to improve but I feel I’m in a good way of doing that,” he added.

Who is Newcastle United and Everton target Oumar Solet?

Solet was born in France but does actually qualify to play for the Central African Republic on the international stage.

After spending some time in the Creteil ranks, Solet moved on to Laval and became a first-team player there.

Lyon saw potential in him though and after a loan spell with the Lyon B team, Solet was signed permanently.

First-team minutes were hard to come by though and Solet managed just four senior games for Lyon before Red Bull Salzburg snapped him up in 2020.

The Austrian giants have become a great home for young players who want to develop and kick on with Solet no different.

A 6ft 4in centre back, has impressed with his speed and he still has huge potential at just 23.

Newcastle may well fancy adding another centre back to offer competition for Fabian Schar as a right-footed option.

Everton have moved on from Conor Coady and may yet allow Mason Holgate to leave, putting them in the market for a right-footed centre back.

Solet will appeal to both clubs thanks to his potential and pace, with the Frenchman clearly keen to make a move.
