Some Tottenham Hotspur fans on Twitter believe that Harry Winks needs to look out, in the long term.
Oliver Skipp was loaned to Championship side Norwich City by Spurs this past summer and the 20-year-old has been killing it ever since, starting all 21 of their league games.
The Canaries lost 1-0 away to Watford on Saturday but the Tottenham loanee was still one of his side’s best players.
There was one moment when City were losing 1-0 and Skipp galloped past a couple of opposition players from deep in his own half, before playing a defence-splitting pass for Teemu Pukki.
It was an example of how direct, powerful and incisive Skipp can be – and at 20, he’s only going to get much better.
Here’s how Tottenham fans reacted to that moment on Twitter last night:
Jose Mourinho has quite a few midfielders at his disposal but it remains to be seen how valuable the likes of Winks and Moussa Sissoko are in the long run.
Of course, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is killing it right now and looking like one of the Lilywhites’ best signings for years.
But the Denmark international will need cover next season and if Skipp continues developing like this, it isn’t impossible that Mourinho – who tipped the youngster to captain the North Londoners one day – keeps him in his squad next term.
