Hartlepool United talent Nathan Thomas is set for an imminent exit from the club, according to the Northern Echo.

Hartlepool were relegated into the Conference last weekend and face a funding shortfall as a result.

The Northern Echo report they aim to make up the £350,000 deficit by selling former Sunderland prospect Nathan Thomas.

Championship new boys Sheffield United are keen and are set to offer £300,000, report the paper, with Leeds United also monitoring developments.

A club who could also show an interest are Glasgow Rangers, who tried to sign him last summer, the Hartlepool Mail reported.

Rangers’ advances were resisted at the time and Thomas was happy to stay put but the situation has changed, and if he remains on their radar, now could be the time to strike.

Mark Warburton was Gers boss at the time, and he has since moved to Championship side Nottingham Forest, who retained their status in the league on the final day of the season.

Warburton brought with him from Rangers, Frank McParland as director of football, and it is very possible that Thomas remains on their radar.

With rival Championship clubs Sheffield United and Leeds showing interest, it would make sense they do too, although any move at Forest’s end could be held up by their ongoing takeover which is currently being ratified by the Football League.
