Jay Bothroyd has claimed that the signings Arsenal have made and are going to make shows ‘intent’ from the club.
The former striker added that it puts ‘pressure’ on Mikel Arteta to ‘definitely’ secure Champions League football next season and even possibly ‘win the league’, as he told Sky Sports News.
Arsenal have added Fabio Vieira to their squad this summer and there is more to come – Gabriel Jesus’s transfer is edging closer to being confirmed – it also needs to be remembered that the club spent big last summer as well.
Added with that, it doesn’t seem as though the Europa League side will stop there because Leeds United winger Raphinha is also being talked about.
Bothroyd started his career in the ranks of Arsenal, as he shared his thoughts on their transfer business so far.
“If they are going to push for the Champions League spots, even a title run,” said Bothroyd. “They weren’t far off third.
“I think with the signings he has made, it’s intent. There is going to be pressure on Arteta. Pressure on the team now to really push to definitely get into the Champions League and maybe to win the league.”

Some would feel that Arteta is perhaps lucky still to be in the job given the rocky road he has been down with the club since he replaced Unai Emery in the dugout.
But it was going to be rocky from the start, middle and ending. It’s just a case of remaining patient, and that’s what those at the top seem to be doing.
Added with that, they are also backing him full throttle, so he has no excuse that he isn’t being backed.
However, if it goes wrong next season, then Arteta might just be packing his bags because he will be handed his P45.
