Davinson Sanchez became Tottenham Hotspur’s record signing last month and is hoping to play a big part for the club in 2016/17.

It may take the Colombian a little time to settle, and former Dutch international Wim Jonk has warned Sanchez that he needs to adjust to the pace of the Premier League.

The former head of Ajax’s academy is quoted by Soccer Nieuws: “When I saw Sánchez, I found him to be a very good defender but I think he should think faster.”

“Especially in England, the game goes a lot faster, so you have to think two steps ahead.

“It will be a big challenge for him to take that step.”

Luckily Tottenham are blessed with two outstanding centre-backs already, Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen.

Sanchez’s only path to regular first team action will come if head coach Mauricio Pochettino pushes ahead with starting three at the back.

This will certainly help him settle, having Alderweireld and Vertonghen alongside him.

Spurs may have spent a lot on Sanchez, but they are in a luxurious position of not having to rush him into action yet and are able to protect him while he gets up to speed.
