Wilson achieves stat only Rooney has managed in United’s attack this season

James Wilson matched a stat last night that only Wayne Rooney has managed in the Manchester United attack this season.

As Manchester United 18-year-old James Wilson went about creating chaos in the Hull City defence last night, he secured a stat which only Wayne Rooney (on two occasions) has managed so far this season.

Wilson had two efforts on target and he scored with both, producing a 100% success rate from efforts he produced which were on target last night at Old Trafford.

Rooney has managed that feat twice this season in games against West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur, with no other United striker producing two goals from two efforts on target throughout the current season.

If Wilson turns out to be half as good as Rooney, then very few Old Trafford loyalists are going to complain about giving him more game time in United colours.

United go to Southampton on the final day of the season and will be looking for three points to end the campaign on a high, in what has been a very disappointing season.

Where Wilson has to improve based on his stats against Rooney on those two occasions this season is touches but that will come with experience.

Wilson will gradually learn about how to get himself more involved in games to a point where he is difficult to keep a lid on and contain.

He seems to be the sort of striker who likes to play right on top of a defence, which isn’t a negative aspect to his game as United have creative players who can feed him chances.

Also bear in mind that during those games, Rooney would have been forced to drop into midfield which naturally allows him to accumulate more touches of the ball and play more passes.

The future is looking extremely bright from Wilson’s point of view and he now needs to put a lot of pressure on the gaffer coming in permanently over the summer.
