Jack Wilshere has told talkSPORT that he believes Santi Cazorla was a better player than Mesut Ozil at Arsenal.
Wilshere played with both mercurial maestros at the Emirates Stadium.
Ozil is widely considered to have been one of the best playmakers of his generation.
But the way in which the Germany international left Arsenal earlier this year has perhaps dampened his legacy somewhat, after the North Londoners terminated his contract.
Cazorla left the club two-and-a-half years earlier after being released during Unai Emery’s reign at Arsenal.
And although the Spain international doesn’t seem to have the same widespread clout as Ozil, Wilshere feels that the former was better in the belief that he could just ’embarrass a player’.
He told talkSPORT when asked who the better player was: “Ozil or Cazorla – I think Cazorla just because he could just embarrass a player. I saw him do it to Michael Essien in the corner. He embarrassed him, stuck it through his legs.”
Good choice
Cazorla was certainly the more consistent player, given that Ozil’s capacity to go off the boil entirely.
And although Ozil was supremely talented, the same argument could be made for the 36-year-old, who’s now plying his trade in Qatar.
If not for injuries, Cazorla would’ve left a far bigger mark on English football, which is the real tragedy of his time in the Premier League.
