Tottenham Hotspur continue to be linked with Boca Juniors ace Wilmar Barrios.
Boca Juniors midfielder Wilmar Barrios has told Ole in Argentina that he is focusing only on Colombia’s clash against Japan as speculation continues over a possible move to Tottenham Hotspur.
Whilst the World Cup is underway, Colombia will have to wait until Tuesday to get their campaign underway, as they face Japan in Saransk, with a host of big-name players on show.
James Rodriguez and Falcao lead the way for Jose Pekerman’s side, whilst Tottenham Hotspur’s Davinson Sanchez and Arsenal’s David Ospina are also in line to feature as Colombia look to kick off their World Cup in style.
Another player who may feature is Boca Juniors midfielder Wilmar Barrios, and whilst he may not be a recognisable name to many right now, he may yet end up calling Sanchez a teammate for club as well as country.
Barrios has been linked with Tottenham for many weeks now, and Antena2 in Colombia now report that a move for the midfielder to head to Spurs has been agreed, with boss Mauricio Pochettino allegedly specifically asking for the deal.
That claim has yet to be confirmed, but Barrios has now been asked about his future by Ole in Argentina, and the midfielder offered a coy response, simply stating that his focus is on the game against Japan.
Tottenham fans may now have heightened interest in that game beyond Sanchez’s exploits, as they could feasibly be seeing their new midfielder in action too, if a move for Barrios really is imminent.
Barrios, 24, is a combative holding midfield player who has been a regular for Boca since making a 2016 move from Deportes Tolima – and whilst he may not be a direct successor to Mousa Dembele, he could give Pochettino greater depth in the middle of the park.
