The Manchester City man’s deal at the Etihad expires soon, and West Ham should consider a move for the Argentine.
West Ham United manager Slaven Bilic
Hammers boss Slaven Bilic will be under intense pressure this summer to produce the good during the transfer window, after the club’s appealing player recruitment drive last year.
One particular area where the Croatian will need to strengthen is his goalkeeping department, with Darren Randolph clearly not quite good enough to cut it at the highest level, and Adrian’s long-term future still in doubt.
With this in mind, an interesting option for West Ham could be soon-to-be free agent Willy Caballero.
Willy Caballero
The 35-year-old is arguably still in his prime years for a goalkeeper, and has a lot to offer at the highest level.
The 6ft 1in stopper excels with the ball at his feet, and is an accomplished shot-stopper. He has vast amounts of experience, and his ability to command his penalty area with authority would add a certain level of solidarity to the East London outfit’s back-line.
His advancing years, and his considerable wage demands will more than likely turn most Hammers fans against the idea of having the former Malaga man at their club.
Willy Caballero
If he is brought into to serve as the number one on a short-term basis, however, whilst Bilic and co continue their search for a younger model, there is no reason why he could not be a useful acquisition for them.
With the transfer window now open, and Caballero free to talk to other clubs, West Ham should make an early move, with competition for his signature likely to be fierce.
And if they do end up bringing the Argentine to the London Stadium, he could turn out to be quite a coup for the Hammers.
