Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast, Ian McGarry has claimed that Liverpool are now looking to sell Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.

A lot has been made of Liverpool’s front three ageing at the same time. Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino will all soon be in their 30s, and as you can imagine, that’s a point of concern for the Reds.

Therefore, Liverpool are ready to cash in on Mane and Firmino while their stock is high.

What’s been said?

McGarry shared what he knows.

“The Transfer Window podcast understands that Jurgen Klopp and the club are willing to cash in on one of their front three, who were, of course, absolutely central to them winning the Champions League and the Premier League titles,” McGarry said.

They’re doing this for two reasons. One, all three players, Salah, Firmino and Mane are all coming to a stage of their career where their value will only decrease because of their age, but also because Salah is now the only one who is consistently performing at a level that justifies that kind of contract that he and his representatives are asking for. Therefore, selling one of the other two will make funding that contract a lot more credible.”

Fellow journalist Duncan Castles then added an extra point on top of McGarry’s information.

“We’ve been speaking about Liverpool being open to selling at least one or more of that front three for well over a year now. The difference here is that your information is that they’re now actively marketing two of those players. Now that Diogo Jota is established in the line-up and Luis Diaz has been recruited from Porto,” Castles said.

Sad

If this is true, then we really may be looking at the end of an era for Liverpool.

Salah, Mane and Firmino formed one of the greatest front threes European football has ever seen, and now it seems as though the band could be broken up.

There’s something quite sad about the idea of this trio being disbanded. For so long they’ve been the faces of the Jurgen Klopp era, and now it seems as though the Reds’ squad is ready to evolve and welcome in a new generation.

No matter what happens, all three players will go down as bona fide Liverpool legends.
