Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers picked up a fourth straight win on Wednesday.
Former Scotland international Willie Miller has told BBC Radio Scotland that Rangers right-back James Tavernier was “abysmal” defensively on Wednesday night.
Rangers rode their luck a little to beat Hibernian 2-1 at Easter Road in a game which saw Neil Lennon’s side miss a host of good chances.
Brandon Barker hit the post twice for Hibs, who were also denied a strong penalty appeal after David Bates blocked a cross with his arm in the second half.
It wasn’t a great night for Rangers’ defensive players and Miller feels that Tavernier was particularly poor in that respect.
The former Wigan man has been noted for his offensive quality since joining the Gers under Mark Warburton two and a half years ago, and ex-Scotland international Miller feels that Graeme Murty needs to use the Englishman as more of a wing-back.
“His use of the ball was abysmal throughout the game defensively, deary me,” he told BBC Radio Scotland. “But attacking, as soon as he gets forward and wants to whip these balls in, fabulous.
“I don’t think he’s a full-back. He’s a wing-back.”
For the most part Tavernier has been very decent this season; much more effective than he was last term and fans of the Ibrox club should be delighted with him.
