Willie Henderson has suggested to the Evening Times that, despite his age, Rangers should hand Kenny Miller a new deal this summer and should actually consider building the team around him next season.

Miller has enjoyed a tremendous year in what has been a difficult campaign for the Gers, currently topping the club’s scoring charts in the Scottish Premiership with nine goals to his name.

As it currently stands, the 37-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the season – though The Scottish Sun has reported that a new one-year deal is now on the table.

And Henderson has not only backed the veteran for the new deal, but he has also suggested that Pedro Caixinha should consider building the team around Miller.

Rangers' Kenny Miller

“Kenny has been a great player in Scotland – some of these players will never reach the level of Kenny Miller,” he told the Evening Times.

“I don’t know what the situation is, whether he has been offered something by other clubs which is better. But he is player of the year, he is a great professional and maybe we should build the team around Kenny. Just for another year, and pick the games where you play him. Because he has been unbelievable.”

Despite Miller’s impressive form, it would be understandable if Caixinha was against the idea of building the team around the striker given his age.

Nevertheless, the decision to keep him at the club would undoubtedly be a wise one because he is not only impressing out on the pitch, but he is also likely to be an extremely influential figure amongst the young players at Ibrox due to the way he conducts himself and continues to make an impact in his twilight years.
