Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Willian Jose has told Sky Sports that Tottenham Hotspur wanted to sign him last year.
Jose has said that Tottenham head coach Jose Mourinho wanted to sign him from Real Sociedad in January 2020 when Harry Kane was injured.
The 29-year-old striker has added that he wanted to join Spurs, adding that Sociedad did not want to let him leave.
The Brazilian moved to Tottenham’s Premier League rivals Wolves on loan from La Liga outfit Sociedad in the January transfer window.
Jose told Sky Sports: “A lot of things happened. I had an offer from them but Real Sociedad didn’t want to let me go. I saw the opportunity to play in the Premier League for a big team with a lot of big players. I had spoken with Mourinho and he had told me he wanted me there.
“I felt there was a possibility I was leaving so I asked Real Sociedad to be left out of a game against Espanyol. But in the end it didn’t happen and I stayed there for another year.”

Succeeding in the Premier League
It must have been tough for Jose after his desire to join Tottenham was left unfulfilled.
The 29-year-old ended up with 11 goals and one assist in La Liga last season, and scored three goals and provided one assist in the league this campaign before joining Wolves on loan, according to WhoScored.
Wolves are a big and ambitious club, and Jose should do his best to succeed at the Wanderers and perhaps earn a permanent move.
According to WhoScored, the Brazilian has made two starts and one substitute appearance in the Premier League for Wolves so far this season.
