Roy Keane has said on The Overlap that Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal made a mistake signing Willian following his departure from Chelsea last summer.
Willian, who can play as a winger or as an attacking midfielder, joined Arsenal on a free transfer last summer after leaving London and Premier League rivals Chelsea.
According to Metro, the Gunners are paying the 33-year-old a basic salary of £100,000 per week, with further in add-ons and bonuses.
Manchester United legend Keane believes that Arsenal should not have not signed Willian, as the Brazil international winger was not going to make Arteta’s side better.
Keane said about Willian on The Overlap: “He wasn’t going to make Arsenal better. I didn’t think he had the personalty. I saw at Chelsea a number of times being subbed off, every week subbed. There’s a reason for that.”

Did Arsenal make a mistake with Willian?
It is easy to say now that Arsenal made a mistake.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing.
However, at the time, when Willian joined Arsenal, it was a move that made sense to some extent.

Yes, the Brazilian was in his early 30s, but he was still playing well for Chelsea, knew the Premier League, and had won the league title twice and the UEFA Europa League once with the Blues.
Willian was signed to make an immediate impact and help Arsenal finish in the Premier League top four.
It did not happen.
