Cedric Soares has posted on Instagram after completing a loan move from Arsenal to join Fulham until the end of the season – and plenty have responded, including his new teammate Willian, and Newcastle United defender Matt Targett.

Soares, 31, had only managed four appearances for Arsenal this season. Ben White has moved across to the right side of the Arsenal defence. Takehiro Tomiyasu is his immediate replacement. So, Arsenal did not particularly need Cedric.

After just 59 games for Arsenal, he has left the club – temporarily, at least. His contract at Arsenal still has 18 months to run but until the summer, he will be playing for a different club in London. Fulham needed a right-back this month.

The Euro 2016 winner had long been linked with a move to Fulham for the entire month. Marco Silva coached him previously. He joins Fulham in a move that suits all parties. Cedric posted on Instagram after his move was confirmed.

It is a move that benefits all involved. Fulham have been using attacker Bobby Decordova-Reid on the right of the defence. Cedric solves a problem. He will have been keen on a move – staying in London but getting more game time.

For Arsenal, they may get a loan fee and a contribution to his wages. It might also see Cedric perform well enough to earn him a permanent move – and that would see Arsenal receive a fee for the Portugal star in the summer window.

Willian and Cedric were both in the Arsenal side, and they now reunite at Fulham. Newcastle’s Targett, who played with Cedric at Southampton and was on loan at Fulham in 2018, also commented. William Carvalho, also gave his take.
