Everton defender Ashley Williams has told the club’s official website that he is expecting a tough battle against countryman Sam Vokes this weekend.

The Blues travel to Turf Moor on Saturday afternoon to take on Burnley, for whom Vokes currently stars.

The Wales forward is currently the Clarets top scorer, with two goals in the Premier League so far.

Williams is more than aware of his ability, having played alongside him regularly for Wales in recent years.

And he is expecting a tough battle when they come face to face in the Premier League this weekend.

“He’s a tough customer, Sam. He makes it very difficult for defenders and I know him very well, so I know just how difficult it will be,” Williams told the club’s official website.

“He’s a big guy, very good in the air, a target man, a bit of an old-fashioned-type centre-forward and he’s a difficult competitor so it will be a tough game.”

The Blues head into the game without a win in their last three games, stretching back to before the international break.

Two of those games have been draws, against Crystal Palace and Manchester City while they were also beaten by Bournemouth.

That run has seen them drop out of the top four and into sixth in the table, meaning Ronald Koeman’s side are keen to return to winning ways this weekend.

And Williams insists that they are heading to Turf Moor determined to leave with all three points to their name.

“We’ve had two draws now, so we’re due a win and we need one, we’ll be going there to win,” he added.

“It’s a different type of game to the one against Manchester City but it’s going to take as much effort and concentrate. We want to get back to winning ways, get the three points and then keep the momentum going.”
