If Leeds United want to bring William Remy to Elland Road in January, they probably would not face too many difficulties.

According to L’Equipe, Leeds were interested in signing the Montpellier centre-back on transfer deadline day in August. But with the defender out of contract at the end of the season, and failing to make a single Ligue 1 appearance in 2017/18, it seems that the club would not stand in Remy’s way in the New Year.

Montpellier president Laurent Nicollin refused to rule out the 26-year-old’s January departure when speaking to Mid Libre earlier this month.

But links with Leeds appear to have dried up of late with the former France Under-19 international notably absent from the gossip columns.

Instead, Leeds have been linked heavily with another out-of-favour centre-back. According to Desporto ao Minuto, The Whites have enquired about signing Sporting Lisbon’s Portuguese Under-23 ace Tobias Figueiredo with a £2.5 million move to Elland Road on the cards.

Record added a few days later that the 23-year-old is almost certain to leave the Estadio Jose Alvalade and England stands as his most likely destination.

Like Remy, Figueiredo has found himself struggling for opportunities in recent months and also is yet to play a single league fixture in 2016/17.

But, for whatever reason, it appears that Leeds are pushing ahead to sign the Iberian youngster rather than renewing their interest in Montpellier’s powerhouse Frenchman.
