Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho is in demand this summer – and reports across Portugal this evening suggest that he will be available for free.

Big money is being spent across Europe already this summer, but Sporting in Portugal are set to lose five top players for nothing due to a bizarre contractual dispute.

As reported across Portugal this evening, and particularly by O Jogo, midfielders William Carvalho and Bruno Fernandes as well as winger Gelson Martins are all following goalkeeper Rui Patricio and forward Daniel Podence in rescinding their contracts.

Portugal's midfielder William Carvalho attends a training session ahead of the Russia 2017 Confederation Cup football tournament in Kazan on on June 16, 2017.

The dispute, largely surrounding super-agent Jorge Mendes and Sporting president Bruno de Carvalho, means the Portuguese are set to lose a host of players for free as players rescind their contracts having been denied moves elsewhere following an attack from the club’s own fans.

The situation is a complete nightmare for Sporting, but it could be a dream come true for a host of Premier League clubs – especially Everton.

Sky Sports recently reported that Everton were attempting to bring powerful midfielder Carvalho to Goodison Park, and the current reports suggest that the Toffees can now sign him for absolutely nothing.

Marco Silva, Manager of Watford looks on prior to the Premier League match between Burnley and Watford at Turf Moor on December 9, 2017 in Burnley, England.

Carvalho worked with new Everton boss Marco Silva at Sporting and could provide the solid defensive midfield option that Morgan Schneiderlin hasn’t been, reuniting with Silva in an ideal move.

New director of football Marcel Brands would also be securing a bargain signing to kickstart the new era at Goodison Park, and if Carvalho really is becoming a free agent, Everton should be elbowing rival clubs out of the way to secure his signature in a dream deal.
