With Chinese billionaires at the helm, Wolverhampton Wanderers have some of the richest and most ambitious owners in all of European football. And this could be the summer where Fosun International really flex their financial muscles.
Wolves have already shattered their transfer record to sign Raul Jimenez on a permanent basis for £30 million, as reported by the Guardian; the Mexican costing £12 million more than their previous record-breaking Adama Traore.
And do not rule out Nuno Espirito Santo’s side exceeding that £30 million benchmark to bring yet another fresh-faced Portuguese starlet to Molineux.
According to A Bola, Wolves are very keen to sign Benfica’s 20-year-old stalwart Gedson Fernandes, although it seems they have since fallen behind Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the race to bring him to the Premier League.
CM Jornal reported this week that Spurs have made a £38.5 million bid for Fernandes, who could potentially replace Mousa Dembele in North London.
So what an opportunity this is for Wolves to set down a marker and really make a statement in the transfer market.
With funds still tight at Spurs thanks to the billion-pound investment in their new, space-age stadium, Wolves have the disposable cash to blow Mauricio Pochettino’s side out of the water.
