West Ham will need to bounce back after their opening day horror show against Manchester City but history isn’t quite on their side.
West Ham are stuck in 20th position in the league table after a 5-0 thrashing at the hands of champions Manchester City in their opening game. The Hammers now travel to the Amex to take on a Brighton side who are on a high after a fantastic opening day victory against Watford.
Manuel Pellegrini’s side looked decent in the first half but City’s quality proved to be too much for them in the second 45 minutes. Brighton will be a completely different ball game but recent results against the Seagulls will not fill the Irons with any confidence.
Brighton have won three and drawn one in their last four Premier League games against West Ham which is hugely impressive considering that they had a shocking campaign last term. Manuel Pellegrini is the only West Ham manager to have taken a point off of Brighton in the last two seasons but he might struggle again this weekend.
Lewis Dunk and Shane Duffy looked as solid as ever while the attackers looked a lot more positive than last season. The Seagulls, under Graham Potter, looked way more adventurous than when under Chris Hughton and this might cause quite a few problems to a Hammers side low on confidence after the first game.
Neal Maupay capped his debut with a goal while exciting young Belgian winger Leandro Trossard is yet to make an appearance.
The Amex will be buzzing after the positive opening day performance and West Ham could well stay at the bottom if they fail to turn up on Saturday.
