West Bromwich Albion may regret not moving to re-sign Yan Dhanda.
West Bromwich Albion and Swansea City were two of the teams relegated to the Championship this season, and both will be looking to bounce straight back up.
Swansea are already making moves to do so, with BBC Sport reporting they are close to tying up a deal to sign Yan Dhanda from Liverpool.
Dhanda, 19, could be a shrewd signing for Swansea and he will be desperate to start playing regular first team football after featuring prominently for Liverpool’s youth teams.
Yet West Brom should ask themselves whether they should have done more to try and beat their competitors to a player they lost in 2013.
Dhanda was on West Brom’s books when Liverpool swooped for the attacking midfielder at just 15.
Dhanda’s departure angered former chairman Jeremy Peace at the time, who expressed his strong regret that bigger clubs were able to steal in and plunder their best talents.
This now was a great time for West Brom to bring back one of the former jewels of their academy.
While losing him to Liverpool was to an extent unavoidable given their stature, letting him end up at Swansea without trying to bring him back to the Hawthorns should provide deeper regret.
