Unfortunately for the 20-year-old, he was unable to help his side get one over Jose Mourinho’s men, with United winning 2-1 despite a late rally from the hosts.
It was the first real chance for West Brom fans to see what Burke can do for more than a few minutes at a time, and the overall consensus was that he is an exciting work in progress.
While there is a roadrunner style to his play, going at opponents with little fear but rarely passing the ball when he should, one wonders if that is something that can be ironed out the more he plays.
The spark Burke brings to this West Brom side should not be understated and fans will love to watch him bomb forward; the issue comes if he fails to put the finishing touch on too many fine moves.
That is something new West Brom boss Alan Pardew will be keen to work on during training, and the best way for young players to learn is to play the game, provided they do not make the same mistakes time and again.
Baggies fans got a glimpse of something special on Sunday, but it seems they will have to be patient as Burke slowly grows into the player his fans expect him to become.
