Some Arsenal fans on social media have been reacting to reports claiming that the club are preparing to offer Alexandre Lacazette a new contract.
The Frenchman has long been linked with a summer exit, and it did look as though the Gunners were preparing to cash in on their top scorer, but ESPN claim that Arteta is now signalling his intention to offer him a new deal.
Usually, you’d expect a fanbase to rejoice after hearing their top scorer is set to be offered new terms, but Arsenal fans have had quite an adverse reaction to this news.
To be fair, we can understand why. Lacazette is getting to the age where you’d expect him to start declining, and Arsenal’s tendency to give older players new or long-term contracts has come back to bite them recently, with the decisions on David Luiz and Willian not looking like the best of moves in hindsight.
Gunners supporters would seemingly much rather the club cash in on the striker this summer and use those funds to bring in a new striker, but if this report is to be believed, that doesn’t seem to be the plan.
