Toure has been linked with a move away from the Champions following a rift with the club last month.
Yaya Toure will stay at Manchester City despite a rift with the club over his birthday celebrations, insists the Ivorian’s father.
Toure threatened to quit the Champions last month following his agent’s comments that City did not pay enough attention to the midfielder on his birthday.
But the 31-year old, who is still due to make a statement at the end of Ivory Coast’s World Cup involvement, will stay at Manchester City according to his father.
‘No, he won’t leave and it’s not even my wish that he leaves Manchester City,’ he reportedly said in the Daily Mail.
‘It’s said that the most wished for changes bring their sadness. And I reconfirm that he won’t leave.
‘If Yaya wanted Manchester City to pay particular attention to the date of his birthday, it’s because he felt that it was the right moment for the club to show him their consideration for all the sacrifices made for City to be at this level.
Toure endured his best ever season with the Citizens last campaign, scoring 24-goals on route to winning the Premier League and League Cup with the club.
The powerful Ivorian has been critical to City’s success over the past three seasons, with his driving runs and goal-count from midfield. He, along with Sergio Aguero and Vincent Kompany, has been one of the key components in a side that will now look to conquer Europe. Losing Toure would leave a large hole in both City’s attacking and defensive game.
Toure’s contract is thought to be worth around £200,000 at the Etihad Stadium, a deal which still has three-and-a-half-years to run.
Despite no birthday cake, the club’s prospects of silverware in the coming years will surely be enough for him to stay, and move on from one of the most bizarre player-club saga’s in recent years.
