Spurs play host to the Potters on Sunday in the Premier League, and will be desperate for three points in order to keep pace with league leaders Chelsea.

Mark Hughes’ Stoke are never easy to play against, however, and Tottenham will surely be in for a difficult afternoon at White Hart Lane.

And the Lilywhites could be lining up against a familiar face – someone who they have tracked on numerous occasions, and even submitted bids for over the past few transfer windows.

Saido Berahino moved to the BET365 Stadium last month, and has been working hard to get back to full fitness.

He told the club’s official website:

“I have been doing a lot of work with the group but also a lot, every day, away from them too, to make sure I am getting my levels right back up to where we want them to be. The extra work has finished now because I am in good condition, and now it is just about maintaining what I have and improving on that with minutes in the Premier League.”

Wouldn’t it just be typical of the way things work in football for Berahino to start his first game for Stoke, against the side who have tried to sign him more than once, scoring against them, and in turn, seriously damaging their title bid.

Although the 23-year-old has had plenty of issues himself, he surely would have been a better alternative to Vincent Janssen, who looks so far off the pace that it would be no surprise to see Maurcio Pochettino sell the Dutchman in the summer.

Only time will tell if Berahino ever fully realises his potential, but one would imagine that he has more chance of doing so than Janssen.

And Tottenham fans will be hoping that their failure to sign the former West Bromwich Albion man does not come back to bite them on Sunday afternoon.
