The young Tottenham Hotspur centre-back is yet to play for his loan club and could struggle to break through.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Cameron Carter-Vickers has been tipped as the next big thing for a few years now, so it was exciting when he was finally granted the chance to hopefully play week in, week out on loan at Sheffield United. The problem is, the 19-year-old has had to make do with a place on the bench for matches against Derby Count and Sunderland and it remains to be seen where his first start will come from.
Sheffield United are flying high in the Championship and are unlikely to change a winning formula, meaning the Tottenham youngster may have to make do with a role on the bench more often than not.

With Spurs signing Juan Foyth and Davinson Sanchez earlier this summer, Carter-Vickers may have struggled to get into the match day squad had he remained in North London, but he could at least have pushed for chances in the EFL Cup.
As it is, he is waiting to break through at Sheffield United and, while it is very early days, one cannot help but wonder if he will be another Premier League youngster whose time elsewhere does not go according to plan, in the same vein as Reece Oxford’s ill-fated move to Reading last time out.

The matches will come thick and fast for Sheffield United and injuries and suspensions should allow for the young American to step out in due course. But at this stage of his career he would have been hoping to play regularly, proving his worth to Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino in the process.
Next up for United is a trip to Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday, and if Carter-Vickers is again unused, doubts could set in even at this early stage of his loan spell.
