Tottenham Hotspur need more creativity from the centre of the park when Christian Eriksen is off the boil.
Tottenham Hotspur waited patiently to sign new players this summer, but a late flurry of activity ensured that some key positions were strengthened, with Serge Aurier, Davinson Sanchez, Juan Foyth, Paulo Gazzaniga and Fernando Llorente all ultimately arriving in North London.
The problem is, Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino opted not to sign another creative midfielder in the mould of Christian Eriksen, meaning that when the Danish international is out of sorts, Spurs struggle as they did against Swansea City this weekend.
Eriksen has already scored one goal and set up four more this season. The problem comes when he has an off-day, with the Swans match a perfect example.
The Denmark international was simply not at the races and, without a creative catalyst, Harry Kane failed to build on his recent braces against Everton and Borussia Dortmund.
The Tottenham play-maker will perform more often than not, yet their ongoing struggles at their temporary home of Wembley means they cannot afford to be over-reliant on one man.
Many Tottenham fans were crying out for another creative midfielder this summer and, while they will have been pleased to see Aurier and Sanchez hit the ground running, it is further forward where they need to see more progress.
Tottenham’s failure to add competition for Eriksen could come back to haunt them, although if that is the case they will at least have January to put it right.
