Will Tottenham kick-start their summer business directly after the Confederations Cup?

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a player currently on international duty.

According to a recent report from the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur have already opened discussions about the possible £18million transfer of Matthias Ginter from Borussia Dortmund this summer, and one wonders if Spurs’ transfer business will be kick-started by the completion of the Confederations Cup.

Ginter is currently on international duty as Germany prepare to face Chile in the final of the showpiece event, but once this weekend’s match is concluded, the 23-year-old will be free to complete a move away provided Tottenham firm up their interest with a concrete bid.

What also makes a move for Ginter likely in the next few days is the relatively cheap fee it will take to sign him.

While £18million will always be a substantial amount of money, it could equate to a bargain in an otherwise inflated transfer market.

After all, at 23, Ginter is only likely to improve in the years ahead, with his price tag increasing as a consequence.

His versatility would also make him a savvy addition, as he is able to play centre-back, right-back or in a holding midfield role.

While there is no guarantee how Tottenham will kick off their summer spending, Ginter’s asking price, along with the player’s imminent free summer and Spurs’ need to get the ball rolling, means a move for the young German could well happen as early as next week.

Tottenham are likely to have to battle hard and long for the new striker and additional winger they need to improve their squad in time for next season, and neither will be anywhere near as cheap and accessible as Ginter, at least not if Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is focusing at the top end of the market as he should be.

If Ginter arrives, Tottenham can also look to sell Kevin Wimmer, who would suddenly be surplus to requirements, potentially negating the cost of bringing the Dortmund man to North London in the process.
