Aston Villa are likely to benefit from Tottenham Hotspur’s imminent signing of Lucas Moura as it should allow them to keep Josh Onomah for the remainder of the season.

According to Sky Sports, the Paris Saint-Germain winger has been at Tottenham’s training ground on Tuesday to complete a £25m move before the January transfer deadline.

The Brazilian is a proven performer, scoring 46 goals and assisting 50 more in 229 matches for PSG, who can operate anywhere across the front line, and is also eligible in the Champions League.

His arrival makes it highly unlikely that Spurs will recall Onomah from his loan spell at Villa Park. Mauricio Pochettino told Football London in December that was an option he was considering.

Although the 20-year-old midfielder has struggled to maintain his promising early-season form throughout the brutal Championship campaign, he has still scored four goals in 15 starts for Villa.

Steve Bruce has struggled to strengthen his squad this January, with Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe on loan his only signing of the window so far, so will be relieved not to be lose a useful player.

The Villa manager previously told the Birmingham Mail that they would consider ‘breaking the bank’ to sign Onomah permanently if the club are promoted, and will now have the full season to judge his potential.

Onomah has made 32 senior appearances for Tottenham, although mostly as a substitute, and might find it difficult to break through on his return to North London if due to competition for attacking midfield places.
